Why Successful Relationships Shouldn’t Be Defined by Traditional Standards

Family

Not all relationships are the same, and they shouldn’t all be judged by the same standards. After all, it’s not like traditional marriages and relationships between a man and a woman have all been roses and candies for everyone involved. If you take a look at the history of the institution of marriage, you’ll find that they used to be legal transactions in which the husband basically bought the wife, for a dowry, from her father. The woman became the property of her husband. The way it is now, with marriage and relationships demanding respect from both partners, and both being treated equally is actually a pretty modern development.

There are plenty of ways to have healthy relationships. Whether you’re involved with one person but don’t believe in marriage, you have a same-sex partner, you feel more comfortable with polyamory, or feel fulfilled with a sugar relationship between a sugar baby and a sugar daddy or mama; all of these are legitimate ways to have a relationship. Anyone who tells you otherwise needs to open their minds a little bit.

Nevertheless, the world isn’t always as open as it should be about outside-the-box relationships. For example, same-sex couples have to go through the process of second parent adoption if they want to both be the legal parents of their baby. Sugar babies, sugar daddies, and escorts (perhaps brunette escorts) are often looked down upon, as though any other relationship isn’t also transactional. If you’re looking for ways to handle the challenges that society can rain down on different relationships, here are some tips to keep in mind.

Hire an attorney for the second parent adoption process.

As mentioned above, same-sex couples in the United States who choose to have children together will not both be the legal parents of their child, until they’ve gone through a legal process known as second parent adoption. This is different than regular adoption, because in this case one parent is the biological parent and the second parent, while being the parent in every way since conception, is being given parental rights (legal rights) by their partner. It’s crucial to become a legal parent for your child, and it needs to be done even if you’re in a same-sex marriage. The marriage certificate doesn’t give you legal rights over your child.

Second parent adoption is a lengthy and involved legal process that includes getting copies of the birth certificate, having a home visit with a social worker, and a massive sea of paperwork. The adoptive parent has to go through a background check, have their fingerprints taken, and has to prove that they won’t need extra financial support. State laws are different wherever you go in the United States, so if you move while you’re in the process of second parent adoption you may have to start over. It’s really best to hire an attorney to take care of it all. After all, you know that filing for parental rights for your partner is in the best interest of the child, but you still need to prove that to a judge. Don’t make any missteps that could be avoided by just hiring an attorney to do it in the best way possible.

Second parent adoption is most common among gay parents, but it also occurs when a stepparent decides to adopt their spouse’s child or children. The legal process is the same in both cases, regardless of the sexual orientation or the gender identity of the adoptive parent.

Use a safe website to find a sugar daddy.

Since sugar dating has been looked down upon by society, scam websites have popped up that make looking for a sugar daddy to spend time with, more risky. But it doesn’t have to be; after all, it’s about companionship, not sex work. You’re not a prostitute or an escort, just because you’re specding time with a man who can take care of you financially. A sugar daddy is just an older man who wants to spend time in a mutually beneficial relationship with a younger woman who needs sponsorship. A sugar baby is just a younger woman who wants to enjoy the intimacy, companionship, and guardianship that comes with a next level relationship with an older man who can treat her right.

If you’re new to the world of sugar dating, then don’t believe the stereotypes. Do your own research, starting with just Googling “what is a sugar daddy?” and find a safe sugar dating site to use when you look for a sugar daddy that you’ll feel comfortable with. As a sugar baby, you’ll want to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself, just as you would in any relationship. Remember, sugar dating can be a great way to enjoy the best parts of a relationship with someone more mature, so if you think you might enjoy time with an older man, look into being a sugar baby.

Go on adventures with your partner(s).

Whether you’re dating one, two or many people, you’ll always want to keep it interesting. You’d be surprised that things can get boring, even for polyamorous folks or anyone in a non-traditional relationship. Regardless of the type of relationship, or if you’ve been in a relationship for a while, you may be out of ideas for fresh adventures and vacations to go on with your same-sex partner or sugar daddy.

One great idea is to take an unusual lesson together. For instance, stand up paddle boarding lessons are fun and challenging—although it takes a while to get the paddle stroke maneuvers and hold the paddle just right! A paddle lesson or SUP rental will take you to a romantic, sun-drenched vacation locale, and you’ll be doing something you have probably never done with your partner (or partners). Even if you’ve hit the surf before, it’s not the same as enjoying the waves on an SUP board with a paddle. An SUP board (paddleboard) is a new, peaceful way to enjoy the water and sunshine and can be a great adventure for you both. With the right instructor, you’ll feel like you’ve been a paddler for years.

Whatever type of relationship you’re in, remember that as long it works for you it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Regardless of your sexual orientation or gender identity, you should be able to have a legal relationship with your partner’s child. Regardless of the age gap between a sugar baby and a sugar daddy, they should be able to have a great time together on a paddleboard without it being anyone else’s business how old anyone is. Regardless of how many partners that you’re in a relationship with, as long as you’re being safe and you’re uplifted by your relationship—that’s great.

Make sure you’re equipped to handle any legal challenges, such as second parent adoption, by hiring a lawyer who specializes in family law. Look out for any scams, such as sugar dating sites that aren’t trustworthy, to make sure you’re meeting with a sugar daddy you can rely on for things like college tuition and fun vacations. Take care of yourself, and let everyone keep their judgements to themselves. After all, your happiness should take first place on your list of priorities. Anyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter.
