Wine Cork Coasters
Wine Corks are very easy to come by especially if you are a wine drinker! But if you aren’t you can always buy them online, ask friends to save them for you, or even run an add in the local paper. Making Wine Cork projects are a great way to save around the holidays because you can make a present a lot cheaper than you can buy one. Plus, a handmade gift is more fun!
Wine Cork Coasters
Supplies needed:
2-3 assorted wine corks
Miniature picture frame
Hot glue, glue gun
Serrated knife
We found the mini frames used in this project in the $1 section at Michael’s Craft store. For wine corks, save what you have or you can purchase them by the bag at most craft stores as well as online.
Directions:
Begin by using a serrated knife to cut your wine corks in half. Don’t rush. Take your time and gently saw the corks until they split in two. Make sure each half is as even as possible.
Remove the inserts of your frame. This may include glass or paper.
Practice placing the cork halves on the frame. Place the corks inside the frame and try to set an empty glass on them. If you notice the corks are not even (causing the glass to not sit evenly) you may need to shave some of the cork off.
Apply some hot glue to the flat side of your cork. Press it to the inside of the frame, as close to the edge as possible.
Repeat step 4 until the inside of the frame is full. This may take anywhere from 2 to 4 cork halves. If the frame has an odd shape, use your knife to trim the corks to fit.
Once your glue is dry, your wine cork coaster can be used and enjoyed.
