Meet Antonina from The Zookeepers Wife

Way back in November I told you about Zookeepers Wife and I even ordered the book to read it before watching the movie. I was supposed to head to New York for the Press Junket and was struck with the flu. I did everything in my power to knock it before the event and it hung on like I had the plague. Like 5 days of pure yuckiness, while I will spare you those details I will say that my blogger friends that were on the trip looked like they had a wonderful time. I followed from the comfort of my own bed and supported the film on social media as much as I possibly could, but to say I was heartbroken would have been an understatement. But the flu has finally left and we are ready to head out to the theater to watch this amazing film.

Story: The real-life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II. In 1939 Poland, Antonina Żabińska (portrayed by two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan Żabiński (Johan Heldenbergh of “The Broken Circle Breakdown”), have the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are stunned – and forced to report to the Reich’s newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Brühl of “Captain America: Civil War”). To fight back on their own terms, Antonina and Jan covertly begin working with the Resistance – and put into action plans to save lives out of what has become the Warsaw Ghetto, with Antonina putting herself and even her children at great risk.
