In every state, you will find businesses that have had to close its doors for good due to the pandemic. Money isn’t flowing as freely as it did at the beginning of the year and it’s not surprising as to why. People are worried because they don’t know if this will be their last paycheck.
With the economy being as fragile as it is right now, there is one industry that hasn’t suffered nearly as much as others. That industry is real estate. The need for housing will always exist and that’s why the housing market hasn’t tanked… yet.
As bleak as the future may seem, 77% of the 1,000 real estate agents who participated in HomeLight’s Q3 survey said they have had clients receive multiple offers on their home – so it can’t be all that bad, right?
If you want to list your home and cash in on the influx of eager buyers, here are a few features that buyers really want in their new home.
1. Doors
It wasn’t too long ago where buyers wanted a house with a large open floor plan because they made entertaining easier, the house flowed well, and the home looked more inviting. However, if there’s one thing the pandemic has proven, it’s that in the recent past, but if there’s one thing the pandemic has proven, it’s that doors are a hot commodity, according to 10% of real estate agents!
2. Space outdoors
Up until now, outdoor living spaces may not have been a big priority for some buyers. But today, 20% of agents have clients who want some kind of outdoor living/dining area. It could be a deck, a patio, balcony, or even a shaded lawn. People want to be able to go outside, entertain (when it’s safe to do so) and enjoy the fresh air, and who could blame them? A bit of sunshine is always a good thing!
3. Home office
With the school year underway and millions of families are using their living room as a makeshift work space, it’s not surprising that 7% of agents say they have buyers who want a home with one or more office spaces. Buyers want a distraction-free workspace where they can get into the zone if they’re working (or learning) from home.
4. Nature access
Not only do buyers want outdoor living spaces, they want to be near nature… or at least have access to it. Buyers want properties that are located near parks, hiking trails, beaches, lakes and so on. They want to get out of the house, stretch their legs and clear their mind without worrying about social distancing or wearing a mask. By having access to nature, buyers won’t feel so trapped at home.
5. Windows
When it comes to must-have features in a home, windows aren’t usually at the top of the list. It’s pretty much a given that all houses will have windows, right? Of course they do. The reason why windows are at the top of the wants list now is because big windows means more fresh air can circulate throughout the house. Air circulation keeps the house cooler in the summer and helps to reduce infection from airborne germs and viruses’ (we’re looking at you, COVID).
A “wants” list will vary from buyer to buyer, but in light of the pandemic, the features we discussed here are in high demand. If you’re a buyer and want any of these features, you better act fast because homes with these amenities will sell fast!
